An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Monday remanded a 19-year-old cleaner, Emmanuel Dickson, in prison over alleged robbery and illegal possession of two locally made guns with three cartridges.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Folorunsho Williams, ordered that the accused should be remanded in Kirikiri Prisons pending advice from the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Dickson, who resides at No. 3 Ewenla St., Bariga, Lagos, is facing a three-count charge bordering on robbery, illegal possession of firearms and conspiracy.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Kenrich Nomayo, told the court that the accused committed the offences on April 8 at 10.00p.m. on Falomo Bridge, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Nomayo said that the accused conspired with others still at large to commit armed robbery by unlawfully possessing two locally made guns with three cartridges for which he could not give a satisfactory account.
“The accused with others, grouped themselves in a taxi with intent to commit armed robbery.
“He was apprehended by the police after suspecting that phones in his possession have been stolen,’’ the prosecutor said.
He said that the others ran away when Dickson was arrested.
The alleged offences contravene Sections 299 (1), 329 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Section 299 prescribes 21 years’ jail term for robbery, while Section 411 stipulates two years’ imprisonment for conspiracy.
The case has been adjourned until June 27 for mention.
